Sri Lanka is a magnificent country with breath-taking scenery and vibrant culture. The island paradise, often referred to as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”, is located to the south east of India and separated by the 50-kilometer wide Palk Strait. Sri Lanka is quite small in size, stretching about 350 kilometres from its northern tip to its southern tip, and only 180 kilometres wide.
However, within its small boundaries, it offers a vast array of spectacular terrains and landscapes. The southern part of the island is dominated by beautiful mountain ranges and hill country, while towards the north the terrain stretches out into wide plains that extend to the Jaffna peninsula.
